How To Mow The Lawn Effectively

Mowing the lawn regularly is the guarantee of a beautiful “green carpet” for your house. Mowing should be done from spring to autumn or variable periods depending on the region. The cutting frequency varies with the season and your particular purposes your lawn: rustic lawn, English lawn, etc. This article will give you some tips to mow your lawn effectively.

To have a beautiful lawn, you need a lawn mower and mow regularly. The frequency should be once a week on average and from March to late October, depending on the region. In summer, you had better mow every 12 days on average.

You should always work in the same direction, and along walkways: sloped, mow up and down and from the bottom up.

Remember to avoid loose clothing that could hinder you during the work or get caught in the grips, or in the mowing blade. Equip yourself with long pants to protect your legs, closed, slip-resistant and strong shoes. Rubber boots are recommended.

What is mowing height?

The rule is to mow a third of the grass height. Specifically, mow 5-7 cm high in March, a little higher at the beginning of the summer, 7-10 cm (to limit yellowing during drought), more flush with the approach of the winter (up to 3 cm).

Do not wait until the grass is too high (10-15 cm) to move the mower to avoid potential jams.
Remember that do not mow too dry or too humid grass. Avoid mowing in the morning (dew) or after a rain, the grass becomes slippery. The mower will not fulfill its job properly and performance will not be optimal.

What do you expect your lawn?

- It is part of the pleasure garden, like the beautiful English lawns. Trampling is then almost zero.
Mow flushes (3cm) well and maintains your lawn to keep it green and dense all year. Use the mower once a week, water and fertilize as often. Monitor the growth of weeds.

Note: For excellent cut quality, focus on mowers with a helical blade, or to leave no trace of wheel, consider the mower on an air cushion.

- It contributes to the family fun: enjoy the pleasure to lie in the grass or picnic there.
Set the cutting height on your mower 3-5cm for a robust and well-rooted turf. Mow once a week in the spring, and then every 15 days. Twice a year, in early spring and fall, makes a supply of slow-release fertilizer.

- It can support a football match. Mow 5cm high, twice per month. Scarify the lawn in the spring. Bring water and fertilizer in abundance when it is suffered strong damage.

What type of mowing would you adopt?

There are various models for you:

- With pickup: the grass bag is integrated with the mower. Grass clippings landed directly in the tray, it only remains empty.

This type of mower is recommended if you want to keep a clean ground, particularly near the house.

Note that: choose the plastic collection box for quick maintenance. Choose a canvas bag for optimum filling.

Attention to the capacity of the tray, do not neglect the weight of the tray when completed!

- Without picking: the mowed grass lands on the side of the mower: it is the side ejection, or behind the mower: it is the back output (available on the riders and lawn).

One type of mowing adapted to the grassland type of terrain, and mowing lawns on which are infrequent. You should set a priority during the first mowing when the grass is very high, eg after several months of absence.

- Mulching: grass is finely chopped by the mower and falls on the ground.
The grass mowed mulch becomes soil that nourishes and preserves its freshness. However, lawnmowers equipped mulching need to be placed sufficiently often (grass must not be too high).

Mowing waste can be recycled into mulch in the garden. For additional information, go to http://jameshansley.blog.com.

What to do with grass clippings?

You can choose to leave the grass mowed in place, especially if using a side discharge or mulching. Or you can pick it up, especially if it is high as it could muffle your lawn. Collect the grass by hand or rake the next day. It will be dry and easier to comb (careful not to tear the grass by the way).

If the lawn has not been treated before mowing, mown grass can reach the compost or mulch to all your crops. Otherwise, burn it (and collect the ashes, rich in nutrients for plants) or dispose of it in appropriate bags for the collection of green waste.
